Organized by local and devoted followers of TED, TEDxRaleigh draws on the innovations, research, accomplishments, and viewpoints of distinguished thinkers in North Carolina.
Here are some of the speakers who will be presenting at the inaugural event:
Dean Hering – OVO Innovation
Dean is the Chief Innovator for OVO Innovation and its parent company, NetCentrics. Dean is the consummate tinkerer, inventor and innovator, constantly creating new products and services. Dean has led innovation programs in Fortune 500 firms such as John Deere, Michelin and Volvo, and has also created a number of innovative new products and services in his garage.
Ryan Richards – Nourish International
A believer in the transformative power of cross-cultural exchange, Ryan seeks to support the next generation of change-makers in acquiring the tools they need to solve society’s most intractable problems.
David Hwang – Thrive
Dave founded Managed Data Group(MDG) in 2001 with the mission to provide “big data” to suppliers about the restaurant industry.
Clark Hipolito – ArtCo Surf
Born 1970 in Connecticut, Clark Hipolito grew up in southern New Jersey where his talents as a young artist, Hipolito attended Seton Hall University where he studied both design and business.
Bob Davis – Backyard Chicken Advocate
Bob has been keeping backyard chickens for more than 40 years. The chickens have been a relative constant during his unique journey that has included experiences in science education, pharmaceutical research, and field biology.
Fred Lybrand – Elmarco
Fred Lybrand operates, invests in and pursues industrial technologies. Fred lives in Chapel Hill, graduated from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler business school where he was a McColl Fellow and a Carolina Venture Fellow, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia.
Josh Whiton – TransLoc
Josh Whiton is an entrepreneur and explorer of the psyche with a bent for social and ecological reform. He believes that everything can be improved and whatever can’t can be composted.
Joan Siefert Rose – Council for Entrepreneurial Development
Joan joined CED in August 2008 as president. Her responsibilities include creating programming and services, fundraising, strategic planning, and community outreach for the nation’s oldest and largest entrepreneurial support organization.
Richard Holcomb – Coon Rock Farm
Richard and his family moved from Raleigh where Richard was a well-known software entrepreneur to the little house at the farm and have never looked back. We started small that first year, mainly providing vegetables to Zely & Ritz but now we have over 5 acres of intense vegetable gardens, orchards, and ponds.
David Rizzo – NC Idea Fund
David Rizzo is President & CEO of NC IDEA. David joined MCNC in 2002 and led the company through a restructuring that resulted in the spin-off of MCNC Research & Development Institute (now NC IDEA). Prior to joining MCNC, David was the Chairman and CEO of Osprey Systems, a venture-backed software services company he founded in Charlotte in 1992 and sold in 2002.
Matt Kopac – iContact
Matt Kopac is the Corporate Responsibility Manager for iContact, a Triangle-based email marketing firm and North Carolina B Corporation. Matt has staked his career at the intersection of the for-profit, public and non-profit spheres, believing this convergence point holds incredible promise for promoting economic development and alleviating poverty.
Walter Drew – Walter Drew & Assoc.
Walter’s expertise in solid propellant propulsion, heat transfer, fluid flow, and computer math simulation make him a rocket scientist. Having post graduate and dual degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Walter has worked in the Special Projects Office for the NASA Space Station Freedom.
